This edition illustrates the second goal scored by Ángel Di María for Argentina in a breathtaking World Cup Final against France in 2022.
Argentina dominated the game in the first half and went 1-0 up thanks to a Lionel Messi penalty in the 23rd minute. In the 36th minute the South Americans doubled their lead. Argentina won possession in their own half and started a flowing move. Alexis Mac Allister played a ball to Messi who flicked the ball out wide to Julián Álvarez. Álvarez played a first time through ball from the halfway line to Mac Allister who had continued his run from deep. Mac Allister then played a beautiful first time cross to the onrushing Di Maria who fired past Hugo Lloris in the French goal. It was a sublime team goal and put Argentina firmly in control of the Final.
At 2-0 it looked all set to be a comfortable evening for Argentina until the 80th minute. Kylian Mbappé scored a penalty and within a minute it was 2-2 as Mbappé struck again with a fantastic volley.
The game went into Extra Time and Messi poked home to regain the lead for the South Americans only for Mbappe to level two minutes from the final whistle with another penalty! The game went to a penalty shootout and Mbappe and Messi slotted home again. Argentina's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saved from Kingsley Coman and Aurelian Tchouameni and both Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes scored. Gonzalo Montiel fired home the fourth successful spot kick for La Albiceleste and Argentina were three-time champions ¡Tricampeones!
