This edition illustrates the third goal scored by Lionel Messi for Argentina in a breathtaking World Cup Final against France in 2022.
Argentina dominated the game in the first half and went 1-0 up thanks to a Lionel Messi penalty in the 23rd minute. In the 36th minute the South Americans doubled their lead when Angel Di Maria finished a flowing move.
At 2-0 it looked all set to be a comfortable evening for Argentina until the 80th minute. Kylian Mbappé scored a penalty and within a minute it was 2-2 as Mbappé struck again with a fantastic volley.
The game went into Extra Time and Messi pounced on a rebound after Hugo Lloris had pushed out a fierce shot from Lautaro Martínez. Mbappe completed his hat-trick to level with two minutes from the final whistle with another penalty! The game went to a penalty shootout and Mbappe and Messi slotted home again. Argentina's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saved from Kingsley Coman and Aurelian Tchouameni and both Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes scored. Gonzalo Montiel fired home the fourth successful spot kick for La Albiceleste and Argentina were three-time champions.
