The game was the 1970 World Cup Final between Italy and Brazil in the Estadio Azteca, Mexico City. In front of over 100,000 fans Brasil became World Champions for the third time in their illustrious history with a resounding 4-1 win.

Pelé opened the scoring with a header in the 18th minute. Roberto Boninsegna equalized for Italy and the game was level at half time. Gérson scored with a fantastic shot to make it 2-1 to Brazil in the 66th minute before Jairzinho stabbed home from a Pelé knock down in the 71st minute. With his goal Jairzinho became the first player to score in every World Cup match in a tournament.

Then came the iconic fourth goal in which only two outfield players did not touch the ball (Everaldo and Piazza). The move started in the Brasil half when Tostão won the ball and passed to Brito. Clodoaldo, Pelé and Gérson passed the ball between themselves before Clodoaldo started a jinking run past four Italian players in his own half before passing wide to Rivelino. Rivelino lifted the ball down the wing to Jairzinho who weaved in field and passed to Pelé. With seemingly all the time in the world, Pelé calmly stroked the ball out to the right for the onrushing Brazilian captain Carlos Alberto to smash home from just inside the area.

Alberto a.k.a O Capitão ran behind the goal with both arms aloft in celebration of the greatest team goal ever scored.
