The match played at the Etihad Stadium was a Christmas cracker as City took the lead in the 27th minute only to find themselves 2-1 behind before half time. Firstly Jeffrey Schlupp smashed home an equaliser before Townsend scored a wonder goal. The ball was headed out from the edge of the City area to Townsend 30 yards from goal who unleashed a venomous volley that ripped into the City net. In the second half Palace increased their lead with a penalty converted by Luka Milivojevic. City did manage a late goal as Kevin de Bruyne scored, but Palace held on for a famous away win.
