This edition illustrates the wonder try scored by Scotland winger Duhan van der Merwe against England at Twickenham in the Six Nations 2023. It was the highlight of a great match in which Scotland lifted the Calcutta Cup and completed back-to-back wins at Twickenham for the first time in the countries history.
With the score 5 - 7 to Scotland in the 28th minute van der Merwe received the ball inside his own half. The winger then ran the length of the pitch twisting and turning past five England players to increase the visitors lead. It was a remarkable try showing pace, strength and skill. Before half time England struck back with a try of their own to lead by one point at the break 13 - 12.
England increased their lead to 20 - 12 early in the second half before Scotland hit back when Ben White scored. Owen Farrell and Finn Russell traded penalties to make the score 23 - 22 heading into the final ten minutes. However it was Van der Merwe again who was the hero, scoring the winning try to give the Scots a well deserved 23 - 29 victory.
