The goal gave England a 2-1 lead in the 16th minute however Argentina equalised before half time with a cleverly worked free kick. In the second half Beckham was sent off, Sol Campbell had a late goal disallowed and the game went to penalties after extra time. True to form England lost the penalty shootout as Ince and Batty had their efforts saved, England were yet again knocked out in the Quarter Finals.

The title of the book “A Fantastic Run” is taken from the live ITV commentary by the late great Brian Moore.
