Chelsea has won the first leg 1-0 at Kingsmeadow with a Drew Spence’s goal. The away match at Bayern Munich was a true test of the Blues European pedigree. The first half ended goaless and Chelsea were heading into the last 16 of the competition.
On the hour Ramona Bachmann played a wonderful through ball to Fran Kirby who had made a clever run from within her own half. Kirby took the bouncing ball in her stride and outpaced the Bayern defence before finishing from the edge of the area with a delightful curling finish.
It meant that the home side needed three goals in the final 30 minutes. In the 76th minute Gemma Davison deflected the ball into her own net to make it 1-1 on the night and the whole tie was level when Lucie Vonkova scored. Bayern needed one more goal and it looked as though they had it in injury time but the goal was ruled out for a foul.
The game ended 2-1 to Bayern but Chelsea went through on away goals courtesy of Fran Kirby's wonder strike.
