This edition illustrates the dramatic double final ball of the Vitality Blast Final in 2022. The match was played between Hampshire Hawks and Lancashire Lightning at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
With Lancashire on 148 - 8 needing 152 for the win, they needed four from the final ball from Hampshire's Australian bowler Nathan Ellis. Richard Gleeson was clean bowled and the Hawks celebrated wildly as the post match fireworks exploded into the air. However the celebrations were cut short as the umpire signalled a no-ball as Ellis had overstepped.
The final ball had to be re-bowled and Lancashire now only needed two to win. Once the smoke had partially cleared, Ellis began his final run up. This time he bowled a shorter slower ball that left Gleeson swinging at fresh air and Hampshire Hawks could celebrate… again! It was Hampshire's third Vitality Blast victory in 20 years.
The title 'Evening Major!' is the popular chant that the Hampshire Hawks fans cheer at matches in a call and response to the club mascot 'Major'.
