Matthew Le Tissier goal v Manchester United - Southampton 6 Man Utd 3 - Premier League 1996 - Football Book Cover Poster (Various Sizes)
This print is the perfect gift for any Southampton fan as an iconic football moment is captured in this classic book cover poster.
This version (yet again) depicts the genius of Matthew Le Tissier! The goal was scored in a Premier League match at the Dell in 1996 against Manchester United. Southampton would record a famous 6 - 3 victory over the Red Devils and be remembered for Le Tissier's superb solo effort.
With the Saints already 1-0 up, after a Ey al Berkovic goal in the 6th minute, the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Roy Keane was sent off in the 21st minute. The day went from bad to worse for United as Le Tissier picked up the ball in the 35th minute and weaved between defenders before dinking an inch perfect lob over Peter Schmeichel from the edge of the area.
David Beckham pulled one back in the 41st minute but Saints responded before halftime when Egil Ostenstad put the hosts 3-1 up. Early in the second half David May made it 3-2 but it was Southampton who scored next with Berkovic (83) and Ostenstad (85) finding the back of the net to make it 5-2. Paul Scholes scored an 89th minute consolation but Saints would have the last laugh with their sixth of the day as Ostenstad looked as though he had completed a famous hat-trick but unfortunately it was given as a Gary Neville own goal.
The title of the book “That is a sublime piece of skill” is taken from the match day commentary.
