What a team! What a kit!!

The Netherlands football team of 1988 has to be one of my all time favourite teams in world football. Every player from Hans van Breukelen in goal to Marco van Basten up front is a legend. The Dutch finally lifted a major trophy after years of hurt in 1988.

Euro '88 was hosted by West Germany who the Netherlands knocked out in a dramatic semi final with an 88th minute Van Basten winner. In the final the charismatic dreadlocked captain Ruud Gullit headed home the opening goal before Van Basten stunned the world with one of the all time great goals, volleying home from a ridiculous angle to secure a 2-0 win over the USSR.

This poster illustrates the iconic home kit worn by the victorious Dutch team and lists all of the Netherlands results in the tournament.
