This print is the perfect gift for any Port Vale fan as an iconic football moment is captured in this classic book cover poster.
This version depicts the first goal in the Valiants giant killing of Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup.
On a momentous day at Vale Park in 1988 as Third Division Port Vale welcomed First Division giants Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs were beaten finalists in the previous year and were looking to make amends. The pitch was so boggy and heavy the Spurs manager Terry Venables left Ossie Ardiles out of his team as he feared the Argentinian would ‘get lost in the mud’.
The game began with the visitors on the front foot and Chris Waddle spurned a good chance. In the 13th minute the Vale took the lead when Ray Walker hit a stunning shot into the far corner leaving Tottenham goalkeeper Tony Parks rooted to the spot. It got even better for the hosts in the 25th minute as Phil Sproson smashed home to make it 2-0. The home fans were in raptures and sensed an FA Cup giant killing was on the cards.
Neil ’Razor’ Ruddock pulled a goal back for the North London side in the 64th minute but Port Vale held on for a famous FA Cup win.
The title of the book “This is Walker… Yesssss!” is taken from the Match of the Day commentary.
Each poster will be posted in a sturdy postal tube to ensure safe delivery to your home.
