The ball hit the post and bounced down in front of Wigan's Bevan French, but span away from him. As it looked as though the ball was heading out of play Welsby pounced in front of French to touch down just in bounds. The final score was 8 - 4 as the youngest player on the pitch had snatched victory for St. Helens at the death to retain the Super League trophy.
