The try was scored as time had run out and Saints brilliantly kept play alive. Trailing 11-10, any mistake would of ended the match. Paul Sculthorpe, Sean Long, Kevin Iro, Steve Hall, Sean Hoppe, Tim Jonkers all touched the ball, before Long picked up the ball again and sprinted across the field before passing to Dwayne West. West weaved his way up the left wing before slipping a pass to Chris Joynt who raced down the wing to score the match winning try. Saints won the match 16-11 and went on to win the Super League Grand Final by defeating Wigan Warriors 16 - 29.

The title of the book 'Wide to West' is taken from the legendary commentary of Sky Sports Eddie Hemmings.
