This version illustrates the equalising goal for Reading against Luton Town in the Simod Cup Final at Wembley in 1988.
On an historic day for the Biscuitmen, Second Division Reading were the underdogs against First Division Luton Town. However Reading had already knocked out top flight opposition in earlier rounds with QPR, Oxford United, Nottingham Forest and Coventry City all falling to the Royals.
Mick Harford put Luton 1–0 up in the fourteenth minute. Six minutes later Michael Gilkes was put through with a great ball from Neil Smillie. Gilkes hit his shot first time, Les Sealey could only parry the ball over his head and watch as it looped into the net. Only five minutes later, Gilkes won a penalty which Stuart Beavon scored to give Reading a half time lead.
In the 55th minute Mick Tait finished cooly after another great pass from Smillie. In the 66th minute it was Neil Smillie himself who finished the game off when he poked home the fourth goal.
The title of the book 'Royals rule at Wembley' is taken from a newspaper headline.
