This version illustrates the last minute winning goal by Dean Campbell for The Boro at Villa Park in the Third Round of the FA Cup in 2023. The visitors were trailing 1-0 to the Premier League side after a 33rd minute opener from Morgan Sanson.
In the 85th minute Villa's Leander Dendoncker was sent off for a foul on Dean Campbell and Stevenage were awarded a penalty. Jamie Reid slotted home from the spot and it looked as though the League Two side were going to grab a draw and a replay. However Stevenage pushed for a winner and in the 90th minute a short corner was picked up by Campbell and with no Villa player closing him down he decided to take a shot at goal. The strike was a beauty and beat Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen at his near post to send the away fans into delirium. The final whistle blew and Stevenage had caused a huge FA Cup upset. Manager Steve Evans and the players went to the travelling fans to celebrate on a historic day in the famous competitions long history.
The title of the book 'A cup upset for the ages' is taken from the live BBC commentary.
