I am creating a series of posters in a range called “Movie Classics”. The theme (excuse the pun!) is showing the sheet music of the main title in an illustrative way and celebrating the brilliant composers behind many of the big screens great motion pictures.

This edition is the theme from Steven Spielberg’s classic Sci-Fi Movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind by one of the greatest film composers of all time, John Williams. Much like Williams two-note Jaws theme, the five-tones for Close Encounters have since become ingrained in popular culture (the five tones are used by scientists to communicate with the visiting spaceship as a mathematical language as well as being incorporated into the film's signature theme).

The poster depicts the end when the mothership lands and the aliens reveal themselves. It also shows the scientists colourful musical panels.
