I am creating a series of posters in a range called “Movie Classics”. The theme (excuse the pun!) is showing the sheet music of the main title in an illustrative way and celebrating the brilliant composers behind many of the big screens great motion pictures.
This edition features the theme by one of my favourite composers, John Barry, for the hit movie 'Dances with Wolves'. The 1990 Western was directed, and produced by Kevin Costner and won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Costner, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing and Best Original Score for Barry.
The famous scene depicted from the start of the movie shows Costner as Lieutenant John J. Dunbar riding along the Confederate line; choosing death in battle rather than having his leg amputated. Miraculously Dunbar isn't hit by any bullets and survives and the Union Army mount a successful attack during the distraction.
