This German team was powered by the all action captain Lothar Matthäus and also starred the likes of Andreas Brehme, Jürgen Klinsmann and Rudi Völler. The team was also managed by German legend Franz Beckenbauer. Beckenbauer, who won the World Cup as the national team's captain in 1974, became the second person ever (preceded only by Mário Zagallo) to win the World Cup as both player and coach, and the first as both captain and coach.
