Wrexham goal v Arsenal - Mickey Thomas Free Kick - FA Cup Third Round 1992 - Wrexham 2 Arsenal 1
This print is the perfect gift for any Wrexham fan as an iconic football moment is captured in this classic book cover poster.
This version illustrates the legendary free-kick by Mickey Thomas against Arsenal in the FA Cup Third Round in 1992. Fourth Divison Wrexham had drawn First Division Champions and Cup favourites Arsenal in the third round of the famous competition.
The game was played in front of a sold out crowd at the Racecourse Ground, and it was the Gunners who struck first. Alan Smith gave Arsenal a 1-0 lead just before half time and it looked as though the Dragons were in for a long day. Thomas had other ideas however as he lashed home a stunning late free-kick in the 82nd minute.
Two minutes later the home crowd were in raptures as Steve Watkin slid the ball past Seaman in the Arsenal goal and gave Wrexham the lead. Wrexham AFC held on for one of the greatest FA Cup shocks in the long history of the competition.
The title of the book “The Magic Little Man” is taken from the commentary for BBC Match of the Day.
